Iberoart International Handicraft Fair Opens in Holguin

Today, the Cuban “City of Parks” opens its doors to the 24th edition of the Iberoart International Handicraft Fair. With a gala showcasing the event’s key artistic disciplines.

Goldsmithing—the event’s featured craft—will share the spotlight with furniture, textile design, ceramics, and household goods. These elements are central to a trade and craft fair. That brings together traditions and exhibitors from provinces across the country, event organizer Danilo López Garcés explained to the CNA.

Under the artistic direction of Carlos López Asencio, the opening show will precede the public’s entry into the Expo Holguin fairgrounds. Which will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The event runs until October 24th and features Mexico as the international guest, the organizer added.

New features this year include the “He Who Loves, Cares and Protects” contest for animal lovers. A prize for the 100th visitor on alternating days. Participatory games for children and Cuban families; and social media activities.

López Garcés noted that the Iberoarte Handicraft Fair is one of the most popular events. Offering the public a wide range of cultural activities over more than 15 days and drawing visitors from across the province.

With an extensive program designed to bring art closer to the people of Holguin, the fair will coincide with key moments of Cuban identity. Such as the Camilo-Che ideological observance, National Culture Day, and the Ibero-American Festival, the organizer noted.

The official emphasized that the whole family is welcome to attend, provided they observe proper conduct. He expressed gratitude for the public’s support of a festival that has become a local tradition.

As part of the event—sponsored by the Holguin branch of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets—the “Lote 2026” Salon will take place on October 20th at the institution’s Bayado Gallery. This space dedicated to the visual arts will pay tribute to the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Also the jury will comprise Yanelis Esquijarosa Abradelo, an artist awarded in previous editions. Delsy Rojas, a commercial manager with extensive experience; and Jorge Luis Betancourt, a musical instrument restorer.

Firmly established as the country’s second most important craft fair. The event will as it does every year to highlight the work of local artisans. Facilitating exchanges with foreign exhibitors showcasing pieces that reflect their own cultural identities.
