The Gratitude Project emerged in 2025 as part of the initiatives commemorating the centenary of the municipality of Antilla. Spearheaded by the Municipal Development Directorate. It brings together—on a voluntary basis—MSMEs, self-employed workers, and other local entrepreneurs to support vulnerable individuals, families, and groups.
Yudith Martí Betancourt, the Municipal Development Director and promoter of the initiative. She explained that the project has grown stronger over the past year with the addition of new members. Currently, 804 people participate, having found in “Gratitude” a collective way to give thanks and share with others.

Activities are organized in the areas where the participants’ businesses are located. To date, 422 activities have been carried out. Targeting the elderly, pediatric patients, pregnant women, and other segments of the population.

Among the most far-reaching events are two collective birthday celebrations: one for seven centenarians and another for 32 children with life-limiting conditions. Donations have also been made to dining facilities in the health and education sectors. Recent contributions include support for the Rigoberto Sillero Marrero special education school and beneficiaries of the Diego M. Yebra day center for the elderly.

“This project demonstrates how economic development can and must go hand in hand with social progress,” concluded Martí Betancourt.
