Beach studies continue in Holguin

The Center for Environmental Research and Services (Cisat) in Holguin is expanding its studies on beaches. A priority within government programs linked to climate change.

Affiliated with the Environment Agency, the institution has produced a catalog of beach areas that serves as a foundation for further research on the subject.

Bertty Juan Almanza, a specialist at the center, highlighted to the Cuban News Agency that the research prioritizes analyzing sun-exposure areas and sand volumes. Factors of great relevance to environmental projects.

She emphasized that, amidst the complex social context, these plans are being adapted to include the economic valuation of ecosystems. With the aim of reducing vulnerabilities and contributing to sustainable development.

The expert noted that the studies also cover flora and fauna species, particularly those vulnerable to human impact.

Moreover the research drives protection measures such as sand replenishment. One of the achievements of *Tarea Vida* (Task Life), the Cuban state’s plan to address climate change.

Cisat also focuses on preserving archaeological heritage and terrestrial ecosystems. Through research and by monitoring the province’s key environmental issues.
