In the 65th anniversary year of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). The Holguin branch of the José Martí Cultural Society will transform its emblematic headquarters. Into an epicenter of emancipatory thought and literary creation on September 4th and 5th.
Under the theme “From Martí to Fidel: the teacher in our hearts.” The centrally located house at 135 Maceo Street, between Luz Caballero and Martí Streets, will host “The Martí Hour.” An event designed to promote books, historical memory, and intellectual creation in the eastern region.
Under the general coordination of Master of Science Héctor Miguel Niles Avalo, provincial president of the sponsoring institution. The event will begin on Friday 4th at 10:00 a.m.. With an artistic prelude by the Bella Vose group and the traditional opening toast courtesy of the Bayado Winegrowers Club.
One of the highlights of the inaugural program will be the tribute to the artistic vanguard on its 65th anniversary. Which will include an interview with Eliel Gómez Martínez, president of the Holguin branch of the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba). And member of the National Martí Board, moderated by Professor Niles Avalo. To explore the indissoluble ties between art and the nation’s ideals.
The literary program for the first day will offer a substantial selection of publications presented by qualified specialists from the region. Master of Science Lino Verdecia Calunga will present the volume “Martí and the Races.” A fundamental work by Fernando Ortiz published by the People’s Library Publishing House.
Next, researcher Cosme Casals Corella will discuss passages from his own book, “Beach of Cajobabo: Radiant Presence,” published by Ediciones Boloña. The closing session will feature “Fidel and the Cuban Publishing Industry: A Revolution from Literature.” By historians Francisca López Civeira and Fabio Enrique Fernández Batista, a text from Editorial Cubans Lyrics. Which Gómez Martínez will analyze to address the impact of public reading on the island.
On Saturday, September 5th, the activities will resume at 10:00 a.m. with a musical performance by young artists Lianet Velázquez and George Anazco. Followed by a distinguished panel of historians and essayists from the region. On this occasion, Dr. Alexander Abreu Pupo will lead the discussion on “Passion for Making and Thinking History.” By National Prize for Social Sciences recipient Eduardo Torres Cuevas.
Later, Dr. Félix Flores Arun Sood will share insights from his book, “More on The Golden Age,” published by Ediciones Ciego de Avila. Offering a contemporary reinterpretation of Martí’s classic. As a closing note, Dr. Alejandro Torres Gómez de Cádiz Hernández will present “More Details on the Organ, Strings, and Harpsichords in Today’s Cuba.” An exploration of identity dynamics authored by Luis Toledo Sande and published by Ediciones Extramuros.
The closing remarks will be delivered by Niles Avalo, who will reaffirm the commitment of Holguin’s intellectual community. For safeguarding the nation’s intangible and ideological heritage. Further solidifying “The Martí Hour” as an essential reference point in the province’s cultural landscape.
