Amid the complex situation facing the National Electrical System (SEN). The province of Holguin is making a constant effort to maintain and revitalize its electrical infrastructure. Which is severely deteriorated at both the local and national levels.
The combination of high-impact projects, the arrival of new equipment, and technical maintenance defines the daily work of a sector hit hard by resource scarcity.
However, ingenuity and tireless work give no respite in maintaining a service. Although often minimal, prioritizes hospitals, vital sectors of society and the economy.
The municipality of Baguanos is emerging today as a prime example of these daily struggles. There, the electric company’s line crew is working on installing a high-speed power line from the Los Cocos Photovoltaic Park.
This strategic project will allow the supply of clean energy to key facilities in the area: the ETECSA tower, the “Rolando Ricardo Estrada” Polyclinic. And the local banks, as reported by José Ramón Rubalcaba, a journalist with CMKO Radio Angulo.
At the construction site, alongside his team, engineer Carlos Nieves, the company’s director in Baguanos. He reiterated his confidence in the project’s completion despite severe material constraints.
Moreover the rationale behind this investment goes beyond the current situation. It aims to guarantee essential services to the population through renewable energy sources. That will continue operating independently of hydrocarbon-based thermal power generation.
Infrastructure and Generation: A Multi-Scale Response
In addition to the work in Baguanos, nine 19.1 kV transformers have arrived in the province. These devices, designed to strengthen the service, will be deployed to highly affected areas. Such as the municipalities of Rafael Freyre (3), Mayari (3), Cacocum (1), Baguanos (1), and Calixto García (1).
Currently, the equipment is undergoing rigorous technical testing by specialists at the provincial workshop before its final transport and installation. At the same time, sector authorities are arranging the arrival of six more transformers of the same voltage. To complete coverage in Baguanos, Frank País, Antilla, and Moa.
Meanwhile, the “Lidio Ramón Pérez” Thermoelectric Plant in Felton, a key component of the country’s energy matrix. It is generating 135 MW despite operational limitations due to a boiler leak.
For this reason, according to the National Electric Union, a scheduled outage is being organized for the timely repair of this fault and the restoration of its nominal capacity.
This is a technically essential shutdown. But one that jeopardizes the stability of the National Electric System (SEN) and results in longer outages for the population. Also the Value of Clean Energy and the Urgency of Protecting Public Property.
The experience of Los Cocos in Baguanos demonstrates the crucial role of photovoltaic parks in the current context.
The transition to solar energy is not only an ecological alternative. But also a security necessity that provides energy sovereignty and alleviates the high demand on traditional thermal generation.
However, the enormous financial, logistical, and human effort required to implement and maintain these technologies clashes head-on with negligent behavior.
Protecting each panel, cable, transformer, and installation against vandalism is everyone’s responsibility.
Stealing or damaging an electrical component is not just a violation of the law. It is a direct attack on the peace, health, and well-being of an entire community.
Faced with the tense energy situation, Holguin’s response combines the hard work of its linemen in the field. Resource management at all levels, and the essential commitment to solar power.
It is the responsibility of the relevant entities, together with the citizens, to safeguard every recovered resource. Because protecting this infrastructure is essential to the daily lives of our families.
