Holguin’s first photovoltaic charging station was inaugurated by the non-state management entity Frenas Conmigo. In its initial phase, it features 30 kilowatts (kW) of inverters and 60 kW of batteries. It is located on the outskirts of the city.
René Rodríguez Morales, provincial director of transportation, told the Cuban News Agency that the facility, located in the Alcides Pino district. It benefits the community, given the current impact on transportation and mobility, which relies heavily on electric vehicles.
Álvaro Grass González, sole partner and founder of the entity, explained that the solar station provides residents with free charging for everyday. Low-consumption devices such as cell phones and rechargeable lamps.
The solar charging station was built in 40 days, generates 10 jobs, and operates 12 hours a day in its initial phase. With areas designated for cooking food, Grass González added.
Also the founder noted that the facility will expand its capacity in a second phase to reach 76 kW of inverters and 100 kW of batteries. Intended for charging electric vehicles and operating 24 hours a day.
The new facility is conceived as a solution to the country’s energy deficit. In line with the policies for changing the energy generation matrix. Also benefiting transporters and owners of electric tricycles and mopeds, and extending to lower-consumption items.
At the opening, held this Sunday, Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province. As well as Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguin, were present, among other political and governmental authorities of the territory.
The small business Frenas Conmigo, founded in 2022. It aims to lead automotive services in the province by repairing brake and clutch systems. Thus contributing to the long-term sustainability of vehicles.
