She arrived at the radio station in 1980, at just 31 years old, and hasn’t wanted to leave this medium since. This is part of the story of Libia Rosa Morales Brito.
She recounts that she began working at Radio Holguin Instrumental in 1980 thanks to the then Provincial Director of Radio, Antonio Almaguer, “Toñito.” Who opened doors for her when she was looking for work.
A few years later, when Radio Holguin Instrumental closed, its staff joined the team at CMKO Radio Angulo, among them our dear Libia.
Also she started there first as a receptionist. Then as a studio inspector, later as a secretary in the Technical Department with Irán Jorge Artiles. Finally as the director’s secretary, a position she has held for over 30 years.
Libia Rosa hasn’t worked with many provincial directors because her longest tenure was alongside Moraima López. The first director she worked with, to whom she will always be grateful.
Another official director for whom she served as secretary is Yanetsy Figueredo. And currently Natalia Díaz, among other directors who were substitutes.
Libia is a radio personality in Holguin, in the best sense of the word. She has a tremendous memory for numbers. Moreover she remembers the phone numbers of every municipal director and every journalist. This writer, at 37, would love to have Libia Rosa Morales Brito’s prodigious memory.
Throughout these 46 years of work, Libia remembers many people who have passed through the station. When I asked her who came to mind, she said without hesitation: Hernán Zaldívar.
She is very responsible in her work. A hard-working ant who wasn’t very happy when there were delays in delivering the information she needed. There hasn’t been an urgent call for help from the radio station staff that Libia hasn’t known how to reach. She knows everyone, and many people know her. Countless artists, workers, managers, and members of the public have passed through those offices.
Now 77 years old, Libia is thinking about finally retiring from radio. She acknowledges that the years are taking their toll, but she has dedicated her entire life to her profession. She doesn’t think she’ll be around much longer, but for now. All we can do is thank her immensely, because it won’t be easy to find another Libia Rosa on the radio.
