The performing arts scene in the City of Parks is revitalized with an exciting new artistic experiment. Under the general direction of Verenice González, “Verde” articulates a robust interdisciplinary dialogue. The staging finds its main conceptual support in the set design and a rigorous study of the color wheel. Specially configured to identify and pay tribute to the poetics of the Spanish author Federico García Lorca.
Likewise, the work organically intertwines theatrical performance with the power of flamenco folk dance and live music. Three musical instruments played on stage will guide the rhythmic sequence. And atmosphere of the work, giving the piece an imposing sound.
According to the theater collective, the plot of “Verde” unfolds through three essential female figures from world literature. The set design places each character on individual platforms. Generating a visual dynamism that reinforces their psychology.
The success of this production rests on a rigorously selected cast that embodies the complexity of Lorca’s characters. In the leading female roles, the piece features Thalía Urquiza, who embodies La Tarara, combining her talents as a dancer and actress. Alejandra Calero, who brings to life the iconic and tragic Yerma. And Catheryn González, who embodies the fiery temperament of the Shoemaker.
Also this powerful acting trio is organically complemented by the dramatic and musical talents of Jennifer Rodríguez (musician and actress). Criff Mora as Leonardo (musician), who play a key role in the musical arrangement. They are responsible for unifying the lyrical tensions of the plot.
Through these women, linked by a shared history of conflict, the piece proposes a direct confrontation with the canons and dogmas established by society. Making visible the suffered and repressed desires of women in their tireless pursuit of emancipation.
With the addition of this premiere to the province’s cultural program, the experimental theater group Catarsis Teatro solidifies its position within Holguin’s theater scene. As a space for avant-garde and constant aesthetic renewal.
The young group is characterized by its focus on a strong hybridization of the arts. Combining acting with performance art, dance, and live music performed by its own members in an interdisciplinary manner.
Furthermore, in accordance with its name, the group conceives of theater as a confrontational mirror and a space for emotional purification. An ideal platform for exploring contemporary human conflicts. Making women’s realities visible, and generating open debate against the dogmas and canons imposed by traditional society.
