Russia and China issued a joint statement on Wednesday. Condemning hegemonic policies that hinder the construction of a multipolar world.
Signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. During the latter’s official visit to Beijing from May 19th to 20th. They reiterated their firm opposition to “hegemonism,” “unilateralism.” And the “return to a world where only the law of the strongest prevails.”
The document states that Moscow and Beijing oppose any action that violates the objectives and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Or that threatens the sovereignty and security of other countries. They emphasizes their opposition to the interference of external forces in the region’s internal affairs “under any pretext.”
In this context, they reaffirm the central role of the United Nations in international politics. Amidst growing geopolitical rivalry, local conflicts, and global instability.
They emphasize that this global turbulence is “fueled by the aggressive policies of a number of states acting with hegemonic and neocolonial logic.” “Undermining the sovereignty” of other countries and “hindering their economic development” through sanctions. “Creating obstacles to building a multipolar world.”
Therefore, they urge the elimination of “illegal unilateral coercive measures. That undermine international law, the principles, and the objectives of the Charter of the United Nations.” They also condemn the “provocations” and “hostile actions” by nuclear states toward other countries possessing weapons of mass destruction.
Putin and Xi agreed in their statement that the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. “Violate international law and the fundamental norms of international relations” and seriously undermine stability in the Middle East.
Both leaders expressed their support for Latin America and the Caribbean’s status as a zone of peace. As well as for the struggle of Latin American states “to autonomously choose their development paths and partners.”
The parties noted the destructive nature of the US idea to build the Golden Dome air defense system for strategic stability.
