Cuba Rejects US Executive Order Intensifying Blockade

Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs today strongly rejected the Executive Order issued on May 1st by the White House. That intensifies the economic, financial, and commercial blockade against the island.

In a statement, the Caribbean nation’s foreign ministry also condemned the Treasury Department’s decision this Thursday. To add the Cuban entities Gaesa and MoaNickel S.A. to the Specially Designated Nationals List. As the first coercive measure stemming from the order signed less than a week ago by President Donald Trump.

According to the statement, this constitutes an act of ruthless economic aggression that amplifies the extraterritorial effects of the blockade. With the potential application of secondary sanctions against foreign companies, banks, and entities. Even if their business dealings in the United States are unrelated to Cuba.
The statement adds that the measure will further hinder the functioning of the national economy. Which has already been facing the disastrous effects of the oil blockade imposed on January 29th, 2026. Paralyzing fuel exports to the country.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) asserts that, acting as the world’s policeman and in blatant violation of international law. And the fundamental principles of free trade in goods and services. The sovereign right of all states that have or wish to maintain economic, commercial, and financial relations with Cuba is being explicitly, blatantly, and directly attacked.

In particular, the statement mentions that the highest U.S. authorities. Especially Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are attempting to force the international community. Through blackmail and intimidation, to submit to and comply with the blockade.

The document emphasizes that no country is exempt from this threat of extending the genocide against the Cuban people. Attempting to force Cuba’s isolation from the international economic and financial arena.

In this regard, it warns that this aggression against the Cuban economy and people will only achieve. Its intended destructive effect if sovereign and independent nations allow themselves. To be intimidated and threatened by the United States government.

Moreover the text recalls that the international community has historically opposed and condemned the genocide being committed against the Cuban people by the United States government. A genocide that has lasted for almost seven decades.
In this respect, it denounces the criminal nature of these aggressive measures. Aimed at forcing the entire Cuban population into submission through hunger and desperation. Attempting to generate a social, economic, and political catastrophe on a national scale.

Furthermore, it repudiates the United States government’s intention to create a humanitarian crisis. To justify more dangerous actions, including military aggression against Cuba.

“Cuba will continue to denounce the blockade.” Likewise, we urge the international community to confront this onslaught. Which constitutes a dangerous escalation in the U.S. desire to exert domination and control over Cuba’s destiny. Violating the independence and sovereignty of all states,” the statement emphasizes.
