Dance takes center stage in Holguin’s streets

The performance by the Codanza company and the La Campana folk group. They immersed the area around Calixto García Park in Holguin. In a spectacle that integrated movement with artistic creation, part of the Romerías de Mayo festival’s program of activities.

Since the Romerías festival’s inception, the “Dance in Public Landscapes” initiative has focused on performances in open spaces and busy areas. With the aim of bringing the art of dance to diverse audiences as a shared experience.

Vianki González Miranda, teacher and director of Codanza. She explained to the Cuban News Agency (CNA) that the company brings together students. As a way to constantly renew its structure with new members, ideas and creations.  A desire to embrace dance as nourishment for the soul.

The choreographer also highlighted the group’s commitment to the grand celebration that the Romerías de Mayo (May Pilgrimages) represent for artistic creation. A commitment that demands sacrifices from the dancers who, for this event, leave the dance floor for the pavement.

Moreover this initiative positions art in urban settings with a direct approach to those passing through the city center. During a youth festival that transcends the conventional and has the capacity to generate smiles and joy in those who observe it.

The event reaffirms its position as one of the most valued spaces within the Romerías de Mayo activities. With a program that integrates diverse artistic expressions with the public.
