Cuba Must Beat Canada to Advance in the World Baseball Classic

Focused on making necessary adjustments for the do-or-die game against Canada. The Cuban national team takes a day off today in the VI World Baseball Classic.

After falling 1-4 to host Puerto Rico, the top seed in Group A, on Monday. Germán Mesa’s team must defeat the Canadians to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Regardless of what happens today in the game between the undefeated Puerto Ricans (3-0) and the Canadians (1-1). The second spot will be decided in the final game of the preliminary round.

Cuba managed just two hits in their most recent game. Maintaining the same lineup as the previous two matches, where offense was also lacking, but home run production was a highlight.

Faced with such a slump, the front office might opt for some lineup changes to encourage run production. Reduce the strain on a pitching staff that will have its best pitchers available for this crucial challenge.

Left-hander Liván Moinelo, who had a successful start last Friday against Panama. He should return to the mound with the task of pitching as many innings as possible with the 65 pitches allowed for this stage of the Classic.

In addition to the available spot in this group, another berth remains to be decided in Group B. Also where the United States (3-0) secured its advancement last night by defeating Mexico 5-3.

The team joining the Americans will be the winner of the matchup between Italy (2-0) and Mexico (2-1).

Japan (3-0) and Korea (2-2) also secured their spots in the quarterfinals from Group C. As did Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, both with 3-0 records, from Group D.
