The celebrations for Art Instructor’s Day are taking place in Holguin until February 18th. With events in communities and schools highlighting the work of this profession and its role in safeguarding national identity.
The activities are dedicated to the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. And the 85th anniversary of the University Theater group.
Aliuska Laguarda Marrero, a spokesperson for the José Martí Art Instructors Brigade (BJM) in the province. She told the Cuban News Agency that the program aims to promote the artistic and pedagogical work of the teachers in their performance venues. Reaching hard-to-access communities in Mayari, Moa, Urbano Noris, and other municipalities with events that appeal to all audiences.
The event also strengthens the presence of art instructors in media outlets, digital platforms, and social networks. With the national launch of the eighth edition of the Escaramujo competition, aimed at amateur talent in all its forms.
As part of the initiative, the virtual challenge “Image of Art” is being held on the institution’s platforms in the province. Also where artists can exhibit their pieces digitally. Creating a way to promote and defend artistic expression despite the difficulties of physical transportation.
Among the activities are intergenerational meetings at the Tacajó House of Culture in Baguano. The “Law and Art in Perspective” forum, a theoretical session of the event. Held at the Provincial Directorate of the Brigade; and the national activation of the 50th Anniversary Cultural Guerrilla in every municipality of Holguin.

The BJM also reached communities such as La Pasa in Mayari. Los Cautos in Urbano Noris; and Rolo-Veguita, in Moa. With dramatic readings, recreational activities, and artistic presentations. As well as activities at telecenters and radio stations throughout the province. All part of the outreach campaign to train new instructors.
Moreover the main event will be held on February 18th. Closing the program in the province and commemorating the birthday of theater instructor Olga Alonso González, who was born on that date in 1945.
