The health system in Holguin province is guaranteeing the operational readiness of its medical equipment. As part of its efforts to maintain the quality of services amidst the exceptional situation facing the country.
Alexander Baños Argudín, technical sub-director of the specialized center, told CNA that institutions like the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Teaching Hospital are being prioritized. Also where intensive care and neonatal ventilators are being repaired—equipment that is vital for patient care.
He noted that an innovative project is underway to repair the CT scanner at this facility. One of the most in-demand services at the institution, which requires expensive spare parts on the international market.
The director pointed out that equipment in services. Such as oncology requires constant maintenance and technological upgrades. Which have become more costly due to the intensification of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba. Electromedical specialists are working on the maintenance of physical rehabilitation equipment by replacing imported components with domestically produced ones. A method that extends their lifespan, Baños Argudín pointed out.
Holguin has several programs for the recovery of medical and non-medical equipment. Including agreements with the mechanical industry to repair wheelchairs, stretcher rubber parts, IV stands, and screens.
