Safety Road, Everyone’s Responsibility

November in Cuba dedicated several days to raising awareness among drivers and pedestrians. About the importance of safety road to prevent accidents with fatal consequences for health and society.

This year, the activities of the 62nd National Traffic Day took place under the slogan “Give Way to Life.” Emphasizing the commitment to promoting actions that contribute to transforming citizen behaviors that influence the occurrence of accidents.

It’s worth remembering that 2025 began particularly deadly on many Cuban roads, including those in Holguin. According to data published in Granma, human error remains the main cause in 91% of traffic accidents.

In Cuba, traffic collisions are becoming increasingly serious and dangerous. Also which is why each event of this kind is aimed at all audiences, and especially at pedestrians and drivers of mopeds and motorcycles. Moreover who according to statistics, account for the highest number of deaths.

Traffic accidents can occur for various reasons and under various circumstances. Distractions while driving are the most common, including using cell phones while driving and taking one’s attention away from the road due to fatigue or drowsiness. Stress and worries stemming from Cuba’s current difficult economic situation also contribute to the problem.

In Holguin, reckless driving also leads to traffic accidents. Examples include speeding, disregarding traffic signals (such as driving the wrong way, making illegal turns, or driving under the influence of alcohol). Also some violations committed by young drivers of unlicensed mopeds, bicycles on avenues during restricted hours, cars circulating everywhere, and pedestrians with little safety road awareness.

We also cannot forget mechanical failures due to the wear and tear on automobiles in our country and the lack of parts and accessories for regular preventive maintenance.

And of course, in Holguin, the likelihood of traffic accidents increases due to the poor condition of the roads and low visibility at night. In addition to traffic fines, license cancellations, and mandatory compliance with Law 109 on Safety Road .

It is essential to promote best practices that encourage responsible driving and strengthen prevention efforts. Especially among children and young people, given that accidents are the leading cause of death for those under 20 years.
