The Cuban national team defeated Aruba 13-8 today to secure first place in the U-15 Caribbean tournament. A result that gave them the only direct ticket to the Baseball World Cup in this category.
The tournament, held in a two-round, round-robin format, entered the final round with a three-way tie at the top, which heightened the competitive tension. The Cubans’ victory (4-2 overall) gave them the regional title and the long-awaited ticket to the world championship scheduled for 2026 in Italy.
The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, both with three wins and two losses, will compete for second place in the tournament. Awaiting one of the continental wild cards that also award spots to the World Cup.
The day before, the Caribbean team had thrashed Puerto Ricans 13-2, while the Arubans surprised by defeating the hosts 6-4, leaving the match open until the final match.
Cuba, which started with two losses, achieved four consecutive victories to head for the title. While the hosts experienced the opposite path with a perfect start and two setbacks in their final outings.
In the Americas, qualifying for the U-15 World Cup was divided into three regional tournaments: Venezuela advanced in the South. Followed by Colombia, while Mexico, the United States, Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica competed in North and Central America.
