The 11 member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) unanimously rejected the US military deployment in Latin America and the Caribbean and reaffirmed their support for Venezuela’s constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro Moros, in the face of the Trump administration’s most recent threats.
The declaration of the 13th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, presented by the Venezuelan president, describes the action as a threat to regional security. The leaders demanded an immediate cessation of any interventionist actions.
The statement denounces Washington’s orders to deploy US military forces under false pretexts and impose policies contrary to the constitutional order of Latin American and Caribbean states.
The ALBA-TCP countries described these maneuvers as illegal and interventionist. The bloc reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty of its peoples.
The heads of state and government expressed strong support for Venezuela’s constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro. They denounced unfounded accusations that seek to delegitimize sovereign governments.
They also rejected attempts to justify foreign interventions in the region. The declaration underscored the need to protect the stability of states. The US military deployment was described as a violation of international law.
The leaders emphasized that these plans contravene the United Nations Charter, which enshrines sovereignty, the equality of states, and self-determination. The Summit demanded respect for the international legal framework. It also demanded a cessation of actions that threaten regional peace.
ALBA-TCP condemned unilateral coercive measures that seek to destabilize governments in the region. The countries denounced the reinforcement of the blockade against Cuba as an action that undermines peace.
The declaration highlighted the bloc’s anti-imperialist and supportive nature. The leaders supported Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s call for a meeting of foreign ministers, with the goal of establishing a joint, dignified, and sovereign position regarding threats of intervention in Venezuela.
The XIII Extraordinary Summit of ALBA-TCP consolidated the bloc’s stance against interventionism and in favor of regional unity in the face of any external aggression.
