The president of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Rawhi Fattouh, today criticized the lack of a forceful international response to the systematic crimes committed by Israel in the occupied territories, especially the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the official emphasized that the coastal enclave is suffering an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe due to “the state of total famine” affecting its entire population.
Fattouh lamented that the international community has not explicitly declared Gaza a famine zone and warned of indirect participation in worsening the catastrophic situation there.
For more than five months, Israel has prevented the entry of medicine and food into that región. Which constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention, he emphasized.
In this regard, he cited several reports issued by NGOs and UN agencies, which “describe a tragic and terrifying picture” in that territory.
Our people in Gaza have become a testing ground for all types and forms of murder and torture, he warned.
He accused Israel of violating moral principles, human values, and binding legal norms, “amid blatant international collusion, hypocrisy, and silence.”
Governments are politically and morally paralyzed and do not reflect the free will of their people or their aspirations for justice, dignity, and human rights, he emphasized.
This disconnect between the world’s political systems and their societies. Consolidates a state of failure and exposes the falsity of claims regarding the value system that purports to protect human dignity, he considered.
