First edition of the Aurora Project celebrated in Holguin

The Holguin Provincial Center for Visual Arts honored the work of Holguin artists participating in the first edition of Aurora, a spiritual and religious art project.

The jury, chaired by Jorge Eugenio Hidalgo Pimentel and composed of María del Pilar Reyes Ricardo and Alejandro Torres Gómez de Cádiz, unanimously decided to award special mentions to artists Leticia Leyva Azze, Yaneli Esquijarosa Abradelo, and José Emilio Leyva Azze.

The grand prize went to artist Vladimir Sánchez Pérez for his works: “Rebellion,” “The Martyrdom of Faith,” and “Faith, Hope, and Charity,” using the wood carving technique, in recognition of the quality of his work.

According to the jury, “using conventional materials, the artist achieves aesthetic and conceptual unity, harmoniously integrating the title, finish, and narrative of each piece.

His work proposes a deeply existential reflection, analyzing symbols of the Cuban religious imagery, from Christianity to Afro-Cuban traditions, with a visual language that connects the material with the spiritual.”

The project also offered a gallery space to the public featuring works by 21 artists, integrating techniques such as woodcut, acrylic, and collage, in the Electa Arenal Gallery of the Centro de Arte. Curated by Roxana La O Sánchez, the exhibition celebrates the diversity of religions and aesthetics.

The Aurora Project celebrated the richness and diversity of our beliefs through art. It represents a great opportunity to admire inspiring works, highlighting the talent of artists who have interpreted spirituality in each of their creations.
