Session of the V Plenary of the National Committee of the FMC

The Fifth Plenary of the National Committee of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) met today via videoconference. Participants in the meeting analyzed the implementation of government projections. Aimed at correcting distortions and revitalizing the economy this year.

This meeting, which is part of the activities commemorating the upcoming 65th anniversary of the organization. Also addressed issues such as adolescent pregnancy, productive social policies, and the women’s advancement program.

The General Secretary of the FMC, Teresa Amarelle, discussed the project “Winning Against Drugs,” aimed at preventing, identifying, and assisting families and individuals dealing with addiction to these harmful substances. Additionally, the work of Cuban women and their role in society was recognized.

With the aspiration to decisively contribute to safeguarding the Revolution, defending Socialism, and promoting the sustainable prosperity of the nation. The FMC, with more than four million members, will celebrate its 65th anniversary on August 23rd.

It works to enhance female empowerment, improve preventive-educational work in the formation of values, increase community activity, and refine the internal life of the organization.

Its agenda also includes eliminating gaps in confronting gender-based and domestic violence, combating all forms of discrimination, and promoting legal education in defense of women.

Attention to youth, school bullying, lack of sensitivity towards the LGTBIQ+ community, the renewal of the communication system, and incorporation into employment are just some of the many challenges facing the FMC.

Challenges for an organization that is determined to become an appealing, useful, and relevant space for all Cuban women and, therefore, a guarantor of active and transformative female participation in society.
