The General Secretary of the FMC with Holguin federated women 

With a call to act with the integrity and energy demanded by current times, Teresa Amarelle Boué, General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC). Exchanged ideas with Holguin federated women during the provincial plenary of the organization.

In the meeting, which was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province. Elizabeth Martínez Quintero, Provincial Secretary of the FMC; and the municipal secretaries of this organization. Crucial topics were addressed to strengthen community work and the role of women in society.

One of the highlights was the importance of achieving a greater than 90% integration of women. In order to consolidate their work in communities and ensure greater participation in social and economic processes.

The discussion also addressed the fight against drugs, analyzing the actions implemented in the territory to mitigate this scourge. During her speech at the provincial assembly, the top leader of the FMC insisted on the need to promote the responsible consumption of electricity, emphasizing visits to high consumers. She highlighted the fundamental role of women federations in the neighborhoods to encourage more efficient resource use.

She also stressed the importance of combating illegalities and crime, as well as incorporating more women as land usufructuaries. With the aim of boosting their participation in agricultural development and contributing to food sovereignty.

On this topic, Elaine Hernández Mesa, a member of the non-professional Bureau of the FMC in the area, proposed creating workshops in each municipality to share the experiences of women linked to agriculture.”We have many schools in the countryside, and it could be an option for young women who do not take entrance exams to request land in usufruct along with their families.

It is a form of professional guidance that ensures independence and empowers women, a goal we are working towards,” she added. In this space, Anisley Reyes Martínez, creator of the sociocultural project Orígenes, was recognized for her outstanding participation in the XVI edition of Expociencia 2025.

During the event, she presented the achievements made over more than five years of work. A project that has provided its members with tools to develop skills and promote personal growth through art.

At the end of the meeting, Amarelle Boué reaffirmed that, despite the adversities, Cuban women have shown to be capable of overcoming any obstacle with the determination that has characterized them throughout history.
