Javier Sotomayor wins the Gloria Award of Ibero-American Sports

The rod remains unperturbed at 2.45 meters since 1993 and Javier Sotomayor is in the news again today: GLORIA Award Legend of Ibero-American Sports.

Born in Limonar, in the western Cuban province of Matanzas, on October 13th, 1967, he has just been honored by the jury of the GLORIA Awards. An initiative that takes place for the first time in history, in charge of SSM-Sports Summit Madrid, a premiere fair on June 18th and 19th.

There will be 20 winners in 13 categories, in a ceremony that will take place at the Albéniz Theater of this capital on Wednesday 18th of the current month.

Sotomayor stands as one of the greatest symbols of Ibero-American sport and Sports Summit did not want to pass up the opportunity to recognize him as a Legend of Ibero-American Sport.

On July 27th, 1993, in Salamanca, Spain, he established the primacy in high jump, which is now in its 32nd year.

He has 16 gold medals, six silver medals and three bronze medals in high-level competitions, and in his logbook he keeps an Olympic title and six world titles. Besides having the privilege of being the high jumper who has jumped over 2.40 meters on more occasions, a quota he surpassed 24 times.

Gold medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and silver medalist in Sydney 2000. Sotomayor will be together with figures such as former coach Toni Nadal, the Mexican soccer club America, Juan Antonio Samaranch (son) or former Brazilian volleyball player Giba.

With this first edition, the GLORIA Ibero-American Sports Awards are born as a recognition of the value and impact of sports and its industry. As well as its capacity for growth in the coming years, the organizers stressed.
