Cubs for a place among the big four in under-23 baseball

Supported by several players with experience in the national series, qualifying for the semifinals is the competitive goal of the Holguin Cubs in the Cuban championship, under-23 baseball category, which will begin this Saturday in eight stadiums in the country.

Yoneivis Velázquez Neyra, helmsman of the northeasterners, told the Cuban News Agency that, in order to achieve that goal, they have carried out an adequate preparation, based on the fulfillment of specific tasks from the technical-tactical point of view. As well as in the physical aspect, both for batters and pitchers.

At this stage, the Cubs were able to comply, as planned, with the schedule of practice games against Granma and Las Tunas. Which allowed them to establish the rotation of starters for the opening game and to define the starter for each position, added the debutant mentor.

For the match against Santiago de Cuba, Saturday and Sunday at the Guillermón Moncada Stadium in that territory, they will use Ramiro Rodríguez, Orleidis Cuba and Yadir Bornot as starters, confirmed Velázquez Neyra.

Although they have not yet defined the batting order, they can say that they will have on the field Jolber Naranjo (catcher), José Antonio Rodríguez (first base), youth Arnaldo Fuentes (second base), and Jorlys Bravo (third base).

Arley Poll will be at shortstop, Dagoberto Agüero (left fielder), Andrys Agüero (center fielder) and Geovelis Poll (right fielder), while Raúl Pupo will be the designated hitter.

The talented Juan Cristian Onofre will not start with the team because he enjoys, together with the rest of the players of Ciego de Avila, champion of the III Elite League of Cuban Baseball, a well-deserved recognition.

After the first game, the Cachorritos will host Guantanamo (June 17th, 18th and 19th), Granma (21st and 22nd) and Santiago de Cuba (24, 25 and 26), to close the qualifying phase as visitors against Guantanamo (28 and 29) and Granma (July 1, 2 and 3).
