The Council of Ministers in Cuba agreed to the work recess with payment of salary on May 2nd in recognition of the firmness of the people. The Official Gazette of the Republic published it.
Decree 126 of that government body, signed by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero. That provides for the measure for this time “in recognition of the firmness of our people who have faced adverse situations, have demonstrated their capacity for resistance, fulfilling the tasks with great effort and taking into account the energy situation that the country is facing.”
The Caribbean nation suffers prolonged power outages due to fuel shortages, breakdowns in power generation plants and thermal power plant outages for scheduled maintenance. All of which is made difficult by the tightening of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the U.S. government.
Despite these circumstances, the Antillean country deploys its productive forces with creativity and the trade unions express full support for the revolutionary process. Which they hope to ratify this May Day in the celebration of International Workers’ Day.
