The second edition of the Screen Cuba Film Festival (CSC in the Spanish acronym) takes place this Sunday in the United Kingdom. And with full theaters the event offers the opportunity to rediscover the cinematography of the archipelago.
From March 16 to 29, the event takes place that approaches Cuban culture. And people through the screening of classic films which make up the rich film archive. Of the Caribbean country, according to the Cubacine website.
It is with great enthusiasm that British audiences welcome the CSC. Extending its reach to more cities and prestigious cinemas in London. Such as the Garden Cinema, the Institute of Contemporary Art and Birkbeck University. And extending to other British locations, such as Wales, Oxford and Nottingham.
Organized by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and the Cuban Music Fund. The festival also raises funds for the restoration and preservation of Cuban film heritage. Also for the acquisition of essential equipment for film distribution in the Caribbean nation, the Cubacine blog said.
Thanks to this effort, the restoration of two animated short films by Juan Padrón (1947-2020). Creator of the iconic animated Elpidio Valdés. Which will be presented in 2025, contributing to the preservation of Cuban cinematographic heritage, has been financed.

Classics such as “Clandestinos” (1987), “Guantanamera” (1995) and “Retrato de Teresa” (1979) will also be screened.
Similarly, the CSC will present Sara Gómez’s documentary trilogy on the re-education of young people, some animated short films by Elpidio Valdés and other emblematic ones such as “Ciclón” (1963), “El funeral de Benny Moré” (1963) and “Cerro Pelado” (1963).
The collateral activities that usually take place in these events will not be lacking. Among them, talks with young university students at the University of Birkbeck. Dialogues with the public and exchange with British specialists with the aim of promoting a greater approach to Cuban culture and its cinema.
These initiatives seek to strengthen cultural ties between Cuba and the United Kingdom. Promoting a deeper understanding of the identity and history of the Caribbean nation through the seventh art.
