Marrero examines recovery of the tourism industry

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero examined the situation of the recovery of the nation’s tourism industry, as reflected on Monday in a press report.

The newspaper Granma, in its Monday edition, points out that during an act of recognition on Sunday in greeting to the day of the hotel and tourism worker, at the La Ferminia recreation center in Havana, the leader was together with the secretary general of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, Ulises Guilarte.

Faced with several questions about what can be done to recover tourism in the midst of a war economy, how to break the vicious circle due to the lack of financing and how to strengthen the economy, the minister spoke with tourism workers.
It was the prelude to the sector’s day on March 4, with an extremely favorable exchange.

The Head of Government insisted on the urgency of seeking solutions based on science and innovation, if we want to be competitive. He called for perfecting methods and generating more income, as well as redesigning products, strengthening business activity, consolidating productive chains and promoting self-management.

He reflected on the value of transforming and doing different things with the resources we have. In addition, he spoke of other key concepts, such as the role of marketing and travel agencies, taking care of the culture of detail, meeting customer demands, training human resources and improving the work environment.

He reasoned that human resources make a difference in the sector, and called for working every day to identify how internal communication is in the facility: from boss to worker, and vice versa, a big problem to solve.

Social responsibility was also discussed at the meeting. Several of its participants alluded to the attention to communities in transformation, as well as the generation of employment and improvement possibilities, especially for the youngest.

In the exchange, its participants reiterated that tourism is one of the sectors most impacted by the intensification of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the government of the United States, however, its workers do not lack pump and heart to move forward, and are committed to the national economy and to defend the work of the Revolution said.

This Sunday’s meeting gives continuity to the process indicated by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to discuss with workers how to transform tourism management to recover the levels and competitiveness of the Cuban destination.
At the meeting, the work of several employees and managers of the Cuban tourism sector was recognized, Granma’s note concludes.
