Electric pumps favor water supply in Holguin

A project for the manufacture of 500 electric pumps for water supply is being developed in Holguin province, by the Hydraulic Resources Delegation and the state-owned and SME Tauba Holmotor, with the aim of reducing the use of water trucks and improving the population’s quality of life.

These implements designed for low flow will mainly benefit multi-family buildings and small communities hard to reach areas, where it is possible to dig a well, which are currently are supplied by tanker trucks.

Iván Pego Ramírez, member of the board of directors of Tauba Holmotor told ACN that as a result of the production chain between the two entities, the components used in the manufacture of the electric pumps are imported from workshops in the eastern territory.

As part of the test phase, a device is being installed in a rural community of 60 houses, located in the municipality of Cacocum, a viable solution aimed at improving accessibility to water with high quality standards.

Likewise, Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, territorial delegate of Water Resources, pointed out that feasibility studies are also being carried out to incorporate new customers to the aqueduct and sewerage systems.

He stressed that at the same time, the program to change the energy matrix in vulnerable and hard-to-reach settlements in 11 of the 14 municipalities, which will benefit from the installation of solar panels for their optimal operation, is progressing.

In Holguín, priority is also given to water quality and the repair or replacement of parts and pieces of conductors to reduce the cycles, which in some localities exceed 20 days.

In the province, according to information from the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources published in Granma newspaper, more than 138 thousand inhabitants lack water service through networks.
