The study of more than seven thousand blocks is part of Holguin province’s contribution to the national cadastre of the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urbanism (Inotu for its Spanish acronym), dedicated to describing the conditions of real estate in Cuba.

This summary makes it possible to determine the main characteristics of the buildings, which is necessary for the elaboration of territorial planning, hazard, vulnerability and risk studies and the strategy to face climate change.

César Patterson Rodríguez, territorial delegate of the sector, told ACN that more than 44 urban settlements have been evaluated, taking into account aspects such as the risks of sea level rise, saline intrusion and other effects of global warming.

He added that the province already has a software for processing this data, as part of the computerization programs of the society in the country, and more than 800 hectares have been examined in 25 rural communities, which have changed their category to urban.

He emphasized that the inventory of existing social services was drawn up, where the possibility of building more than 1,500 new grandparents’ homes, sports centers and spaces dedicated to healthy recreation was determined, assessing the policies for land use.

In the cadastre, more than 2,000 population settlements are referenced so far, taking into account vulnerable neighborhoods and special zones for the development of tourism, said the director.

Inotu, formerly the National Institute of Physical Planning, was founded on May 19, 1960, with the purpose of ordering and executing the laws related to this area in the country.

During 2023, more than 22 thousand procedures and services were carried out in Holguín, while the confrontation of illegalities in housing construction, one of the agency’s priorities, continues.
