After commemorating the 65th anniversary of the passing of the Caravan of Freedom led by Fidel Castro Ruz and the Rebel Army, a representation of the people of the northeastern province of Holguin remembered this Wednesday the historic event that, in 1959, toured the country from Santiago de Cuba to Havana.
The re-edition of the event began on Tuesday in the city known as Hero City and was attended by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Cuban President; it also traveled through the province of Granma, reached Holguin territory through the municipality of Cacocum, and will continue tomorrow the journey to Las Tunas.
Integrated by young people and student leaders, the delegation made to evoke the entry of the bearded ones after announcing the revolutionary triumph, paid a tribute from the
Oscar Lucero Moya Community, former headquarters of the Military Regiment of Holguin.
Enrique Gonzalez Salazar, combatant of the Rebel Army, recalled the journey through different towns and cities with the historic leader, who in each provincial capital pronounced words of encouragement and victory.
Jorge Enrique Pichardo Pupo, student of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, in statements to the Cuban News Agency, expressed his pride in being part of the caravan for the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, as he represents the historical legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and the Rebel Army in the formation of the new generations.
The meeting was also attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Manuel Hernandez Aguilera, governor of Holguin, among other local, political and government authorities.
The Caravan of Freedom ended when it reached Havana on the night of January 8, 1959, and it was there that Fidel Castro announced that the tyranny had been overthrown.
