Russia registers Cuban medicine for tumor treatment

The Russian Ministry of Health registered the Cuban drug Nimotuzumab. Used for the treatment of malignant tumors of the esophagus, head, neck and other brain types, the Vzgliad newspaper reported today.

According to the publish note, in Russia the drug will be marketed under the name Nimolancim. Its registration expands the scope of targeted therapy in Russian oncological practice.

Nimotuzumab can be used only for adult patients. Its clinical efficacy was confirmed by international studies in patients with various malignant tumors. Demonstrating that combined use with standard antitumor therapy improves the prognosis of patients.

Nimotuzumab is a humanized therapeutic monoclonal antibody directed against the epidermal growth factor receptor. Targeting this receptor is a strategy for targeted therapy against malignant tumors.

Its production is part of a collaboration between the Center for Molecular Immunology of Cuba and a Russian company. Which will be in charge of secondary packaging and final quality control.

The communication recalls that, in May, Cuba announced the creation of the new HEBERSaVax vaccine. Designed to treat various malignant tumors through active immunotherapy and which also increases the life expectancy of cancer patients.

Also the new vaccine joined the extensive arsenal that Cuban scientists have been developing for years, such as the CIMAvax-EGF and Vaxira vaccines.

Created by the Center for Molecular Immunology of Havana. Both demonstrate greater survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer in clinical trials and are already use not only on the island. But also in several countries in Latin America and Europe.
