As part of the centennial commemoration of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth and the 34th Holguin Book Fair. The publishing house Conciencia Ediciones presented the book “The Godmother of Biran” to a large audience of professors, journalists, and researchers.
The work, by journalist Adelfa Hernández Hernández and historian Antonio López Herrera. It is dedicated to Lina Ruz, mother of Fidel and Raúl, and explores the roots of the humanist education and fighting spirit of both revolutionary leaders.
Moreover the book, presented at the Casa de la Prensa (Press House) in Holguin, includes a chapter in which people who knew Lina describe her moral character. Her unwavering commitment to helping the poor in the town where she lived.
Its editor, M.Sc. Xiomara Garzón Montes de Oca, expressed the editorial team’s pleasure in each stage of the process. Also their commitment to making it a worthy tribute to Fidel Castro’s centennial.
In this regard, the greatest praise goes to visual artist Alexander Andiarena Rodríguez. Author of the portrait of the mother of these two world-renowned men that appears on the cover and of the illustrations that head each chapter.
At the same time, it is impossible to overlook the exquisite vision with which Julio César Hidalgo Santiesteban undertook the cover design and digital layout.
Several of the people whose stories appear in the book attended the presentation. Which led to moving remarks about Lina’s social impact after the triumph of the Revolution. While also acknowledging the passion and perseverance with which the book’s authors conducted their research.
Antonio López, as co-author, praised Adelfa Hernández’s persistence, stating that she “pushed the sun” to overcome the many obstacles faced in publishing the book. Which adds to the bibliography on the Castro Ruz family.
