Online Process Enabled for Social Protection

The Cuban Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) launched a new online service for social protection applications this Monday. Available on the Sovereignty digital platform: www.soberania.gob.cu.

This free digital tool, which does not use mobile data. It allows vulnerable individuals or their families to manage social assistance, monetary benefits, or other services. Without having to travel, the Ministry announced on its Facebook page.

Moreover the MTSS specified that the digital procedure complements in-person services. Provided by municipal labor offices and social workers in local councils. It strengthens the support offered by the Joven Club de Computación y Electrónica (Youth Computer and Electronics Club) network.

The updated website www.soberania.gob.cu incorporates a social profiling tool to identify vulnerable households. Based on demographic, economic, health, and caregiving factors. Prioritizing senior citizens, single mothers with several children and low incomes. As well as families with disabled or bedridden members.

Also this platform describes more than 300 procedures, 15 of which are already available online. Including Civil Registry certifications, renewal of identity cards and driver’s licenses. With tracking and official notifications at each step. This new service is now added to that list.

The main challenge in implementing these procedures. As noted by the Government of the Republic and the Ministry of Communications. It is the cultural shift required by the transition to digital government. Along with the need to guarantee connectivity and technological literacy for the most vulnerable sectors.
