The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) announced today the passing of actress Paula Alí. Recipient of the 2026 National Television Award, recognized for her extensive career in television, film, and theater.
In a message posted on Facebook, UNEAC highlighted that Alí was one of the most popular and beloved artists among the Cuban people. With a career spanning more than six decades marked by rigor and professional commitment.
The actress was a member of theater companies such as Teatro Estudio and El Público. And participated in numerous film productions, telenovelas, and comedy programs. That made her a familiar face to several generations and solidified her status as an indispensable figure on the Cuban stage.
Paula Andrea Alí Rivera was born on January 26th, 1938, in Candelaria, in what was then the province of Pinar del Rio. She began her artistic career in 1959 as a television model. In 1965, she joined the Teatro Martí, and in 1970, the Teatro Estudio.
Her versatility allowed her to take on dramatic and emotionally intense roles. Although she left a special mark on comedy, a genre to which she brought naturalness and charisma to the national artistic scene.
With her passing, the Cuban stage loses an essential performer. Whose work will remain in the collective memory and in the history of the country’s performing and audiovisual arts.
The UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) conveyed its condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Joined the many expressions of recognition being offered today by thousands of Cubans.
