The oldest regional multi-sport event in the world is about to begin. Santo Domingo, in the land of Quisqueya, opens its arms to welcome the Central American and Caribbean family from July 24th to August 8th, 2026.
This edition marks the centennial of the Central American and Caribbean Games. A milestone celebrating one hundred years of brotherhood, competition, and achievement among the peoples of the region.
For Cuba, the most dominant nation in these competitions throughout history. Also the event presents a multiplied challenge amidst severe economic and logistical limitations that have tested the resilience of the Cuban sports movement.
The Dominican Republic, which previously hosted the Games in 1974 and 1986. It becomes the epicenter of regional sport for the third time. More than 5,000 athletes from 37 countries and territories will compete in 42 sports. In what promises to be one of the most competitive and well-attended editions in the Games’ century-long history.
Furthermore the choice of Santo Domingo as host city is no coincidence: the city, which holds the distinction of being the first city founded in the Americas. Symbolically represents the spirit of encounter and unity that has characterized these Games since their inception 100 years ago.
Also the largest of the Antilles will arrive in Santo Domingo 2026 with a delegation of 504 athletes. Surpassing the 494 who attended the previous Games in San Salvador in 2023. This delegation, the largest in recent years, will compete in 42 sports and participate in 356 of the 497 events.
The average age of the delegation is only 25, and its members come from around one hundred municipalities across all provinces of the country. Demonstrating the reach and vitality of the Cuban sports movement. Which continues to be able to identify and develop talent in every corner of the archipelago.
