Delcy Rodríguez provides an update on earthquake damage in Venezuela

Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, today provided an update on the “terrible consequences” of the two earthquakes that struck last Wednesday. Causing widespread damage and loss of life.

From the Central Command Post of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone in La Guaira state, the hardest-hit area in the country. The president detailed the work carried out in the region. Which has allowed for the restoration of 60 percent of the electrical grid.

She added that they expect to make significant progress in the coming hours with the restoration of an electrical tower in the mountains. And that they have also saturated the distribution of water and food to ensure that “there is no need for shortages.”

The head of state described the situation as painful “for our nation,” but said it demonstrates the Venezuelan people’s solidarity. Also where “no one is alone” and people rallied to help their neighbors, friends, family, and even strangers.

She emphasized that seven states were affected by the earthquakes, but La Guaira “requires special attention.” Some official reports indicate significant losses to civil and institutional infrastructure and human lives.

Rodríguez reiterated that the most strategic priority is “the rescue of those still alive.” And thanked the national rescuers who arrived from all over the country “for their tireless work” in the search for survivors.

The interim president affirmed that Venezuela is not alone in receiving the world’s solidarity. Announcing the arrival of a rescue team from Italy and the message received from that country’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. Who said she was deeply moved by the images she had seen.

In the coming hours, rescue teams from 10 other countries are expected to arrive in the South American nation. Joining the specialists already on the ground from Mexico, the United States, El Salvador, Switzerland, Colombia, France, Spain, Ecuador, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, and Panama, among others.

“We are working in coordination with national and international rescue teams. Tirelessly during these first 72 hours, which are vital for saving lives,” Rodríguez stated.

She noted that, as part of the militarization of La Guaira. More than 14,000 members of the Armed Forces and the Police have been deployed to the area. Maintaining constant patrols to ensure peace, support recovery efforts, and implement healthcare measures.
