Holguin Poet Ronel González Receives Hero Award from Filitalia International

The Casa de Iberoamérica, a flagship institution of thought and culture in eastern Cuba. It was dressed in its finest to host the presentation of the prestigious Hero Award. In its sixth edition, to the distinguished Holguin intellectual Ronel González Sánchez.

The award, granted annually by the Filitalia International organization. It celebrates this year the work of a man essential to contemporary Cuban literature. A poet, novelist, essayist, researcher, and creator dedicated to children’s literature. González Sánchez adds this accolade to a personal record brimming with successes, where the 2025 Nicolás Guillén Prize shines brightly.

Moreover the award citation highlighted the honoree’s extensive literary career. As well as his unwavering commitment to national culture and his constant work in promoting artistic creation. Beyond his books, Ronel is recognized in Holguin as an example of dedication, excellence, and a vocation for community service.

Upon receiving the award, the writer expressed his deep gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting culture in the region. A fundamental pillar of the island’s cultural policy.

The event also served as the official presentation of the new members of Filitalia International Holguin Chapter. A list now graced by Ronel González himself.

During the meeting, the chapter’s leadership—which maintains its permanent headquarters at the Casa de Iberoamérica. Shared the activity plan designed for this year. This program aims to strengthen cultural and social ties. Consolidating the organization’s impact on the community of the well-known City of Parks.

With the addition of new members, the Holguin Chapter of Filitalia International continues to strengthen its social and humanitarian work. Demonstrating that art and institutional solidarity are walking a common path in the province’s cultural landscape.
