The University of Holguin (UHo) has once again placed itself at the forefront of Cuban science. The Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC) awarded the prestigious National Prize to the research project entitled “Framework of Digital Teaching Competencies for Practicing Teachers in the National Education System in Cuba.” A groundbreaking scientific achievement that addresses the complex challenge of the digital transformation of society from within the classroom.
This recognition, considered the highest honor bestowed by the Cuban government’s scientific community. It celebrates works that stand out for their novelty, methodological rigor, and contribution to the country’s socioeconomic development.
In this case, the Holguin proposal directly addresses the requirements of the Third Improvement of the National Education System. Which demands a teaching staff capable of interacting with information and communication technologies (ICTs). From an ethical, critical, and eminently didactic perspective.
Through this model, the Ministry of Education is provided with a standardized tool. Fully contextualized to the Cuban reality, to evaluate, diagnose, and enhance teachers’ technological skills in the classroom.
Beyond simply mastering the use of a device, the project provides clear methodological guidelines. For creating digital educational content and managing knowledge in virtual environments. An essential step toward the nation’s technological sovereignty.
The success of this research is the result of the dedication of a multidisciplinary team from the University of Holguin. The study was primarily authored by the institution’s distinguished professors and researchers: Dr. Orestes Coloma Rodríguez, Dr. Maritza Salazar Salazar, Dr. Fernando Eugenio Ortega Cabrera, and MSc. Amaury Pérez Torres.
