The Electa Arenal Hall at the Holguin Provincial Center for Visual Arts hosted the presentation of the Electa Arenal Huerta Distinction. To professors and researchers Ana Castro Fuentes and Ernesto Galbán Peramo. This event marked the beginning of this year’s Babel festival. Dedicated to the visual arts during the Romerías de Mayo festival.
On this occasion, Babel recognized the professionals with the Electa Arenal Distinction. Which honors the memory of the Mexican artist who resided in the city during part of the 1960s. For her valuable contributions to teaching, research, and the promotion of Holguin and national art, and for her close ties to the Art Center.
Dr. Ana Castro is an assistant professor and head of the Department of Art Education at the University of Holguin. With nearly 40 years of experience in higher education. She has participated in numerous research projects and has received awards. Such as the Alma Mater Prize, the 25th Anniversary Plaque of the Art Center, and the José Tey Medal.
Ernesto Galbán, Master of Arts in Art History, is the author of the book “Engraving in Holguin” and has received awards. Such as the Diploma of Pedagogical Merit and the Distinction for Cuban Education. He has taught numerous academic programs for 30 years.
The first day of Babel culminated with the screening of the documentary “Remolinos” (Whirlwinds). Directed by Frank Batista Álvarez and Dayamí Rodríguez Gómez. The film chronicles the more than three decades that the Art Center has been leading the promotion of visual arts in the province. Showcasing artists from across the country from established masters and National Prize winners in Visual Arts to emerging talents. As well as international artists.
