Havana Film Festival Awards Ceremony

The participation of excellent films in the 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema is generating anticipation for the major awards. To be presented this Friday at the Charles Chaplin Theater in Havana.

Earlier this Friday, at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, the collateral awards given by various institutions, civil society organizations. Also some film critics specializing in the event will also be announced.

With the slogan “Filming Cinema,” screenings of this major film event in the Caribbean archipelago will continue until next Sunday. For this edition, 2,051 works were submitted, of which 114 titles. Moreover 30 screenplays and 30 posters were selected for competition.

During the festival, 283 films from 42 countries have been screened. Including those in competition, as well as films participating in sections. Such as Latin America in Perspective, International Panorama, Other Latitudes, Environments, and special presentations.

Also dedicated to the centenary of the Festival’s founder and prominent Cuban intellectual Alfredo Guevara. The Festival featured Mexico as its guest of honor. From Mexico, Honorary Coral Awards were presented to Estudios Churubusco, on its 80th anniversary, and to the renowned actor Gael García Bernal.

In addition to screenings of films in competition, restored films were exhibited, theoretical events, conferences, and exhibitions were held, and a filmmaking grant for women over 50 was launched in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund.

Among the attractions was also the Third Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum “Juan Padrón in Memoriam,” a platform that fosters the participation of students from audiovisual faculties. As well as learning and cooperation among specialists and scholars in the field.
