Holguin Book Fair begins today

With a varied program of conferences, presentations, colloquiums and exchanges, the 33rd edition of the Book Fair begins today in Holguin, which will run until Sunday, March 23.

The event, dedicated to South Africa as the guest of honour, hosts the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Sistema de Ediciones Territoriales, paying tribute in this city to José Luis Serrano, recently awarded the Critics’ Prize for his notebook Paquidermos and Joaquín Osorio Carralero, National Prize for Literary Promotion.

Also Sarais Ferrer, director of the Provincial Center of Books and Literature in Holguin, informed ACN that more than 490 titles and about 80 novelties of different genres and categories will be available to the public by the five Holguin publishers.

Among the activities is the presentation of the 2025 National Edition Award announced for March 22, and the festivities for International Poetry Day, with peñas and spaces aimed at representatives of the genre such as Delfín Prats, Luis Yuseff and Ronel González, who deserved this years Nicolás Guillén Poetry Prize.

She pointed out the arrival in the province of publishers from Havana, Matanzas, Camagüey and other territories, and the insertion of the presentations of titles from the Peoples Library.

Futhermore Fermín López, director of the Words to the Wind Oral Storytelling Company, highlighted the opening of inclusive and accessible childrens spaces, with specific activities focused on children, as well as the thematic festival dedicated to South Africa, scheduled for Sunday, March 23.

Kenia Leyva, a member of the Ediciones Holguin team, reported that they will make available to the public the volumes awarded with the Adelaida Marble Prize and the realization of panels and exchanges on Africa, and the celebrations of the 20th and 25th anniversaries of several of the titles in their catalog.

The Holguin Book Fair annually becomes one of the most comprehensive and important events held nationwide, due to the extensive cultural program it offers, achieving great acceptance and participation from the public of the province.
