Cuban Prime Minister begins official visit to the Republic of Congo

The member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, arrived on Monday afternoon in Brazzaville, capital of Congo, a nation united in friendship with Cuba for more than 60 years, to complete an official visit that will last until March 19.

After traveling the more than 10,000 kilometers that separate Havana from Brazzaville, at the Maya-Maya International Airport, the Head of Government who was received by his counterpart Anatole Collinet Makosso, expressed the pride of being “in this beautiful country,” while pointing out that the visit will strengthen cooperation between two brother countries.

We come to express our support, our eternal gratitude, for the defense that the Republic of Congo has always given us in our fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and to eliminate Cuba from the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism, said Marrero Cruz, who is coming to the African nation for the first time.

Acknowledging that this was a visit of great friendship, as it corresponds to the historical relationship between the two nations, the Prime Minister recalled that Cuba is honored to have contributed decisively to ending apartheid in African lands.
The injustice had to end, he told Collinet Makosso, who stressed that it was also a pleasure to receive him. We are very happy, he said.

The Antillean delegation is also made up of José Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health; Déborah Rivas Saavedra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment; Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, General Director of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Indira Nápoles Coello, Ambassador of Cuba to the Republic of Congo.

According to the planned work program, Marrero Cruz will hold bilateral meetings with senior Congolese authorities and will meet with representatives of solidarity and members of the Cuban State Mission.

In addition, he will pay tribute to Marien Ngouabi, who directed the destinies of his country from 1969 to March 1977, and during his term of office supported the progressive national liberation movements of African countries.

Since the Caribbean country and the host nation established diplomatic relations on May 10, 1964, they have maintained a tendency to strengthen, evidenced in high-level political dialogue, the development of cooperation in the spheres of health and education, and support for multilateral and regional issues of Cuban foreign policy.

In the coming days, Marrero Cruz will arrive in the Republic of Nambia to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and in the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He will also arrive on an official visit to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
