The northeastern province of Holguín has reported an increase of rains in the last hours, across its territory, the third largest populated in Cuba.
According to a report from the Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, the highest accumulated rains oscillate between 57 and 71 millimeters (mm) of rainfall, concentrated in the mountainous areas, which barely occupy 20 percent of the area of the total area.
Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, delegate of the sector, said to the Cuban News Agency, the three reservoirs used to supply water to Holguin town: Cacoyugüín, Guirabo and Gibara, are at 93, 60 and 30 percent of their respective capacity, essential to guarantee the coverage of the precious liquid to the provincial capital city.
He pointed out that the dams Bío, Naranjo and Mayarí, located in the homonymous municipality, are reporting increases of 93 percent, 60 percent and 30 percent of their capacity, respectively, which has benefits for agriculture.
In the eastern territory, hydro-meteorological surveillance is being maintained in the lowland areas to preserve human lives and material resources in these regions, which are traditionally have been hit by these phenomena.
According to a National Weather Institute’s report, the incidence of a system over the Cuban archipelago, which will increase its intensity in the Gulf of Mexico, after moving away from the national territory.
