Esteban Lazo in Holguin urged to increase local productions

Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau and President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) and the Council of State, urged this Friday in Holguín province to increase local productions, during a tour of sites of economic and social interest in this territory.

At Cristino Naranjo sugar mill, in the municipality of Cacocum, the leader was interested in the plans for planting sugar cane, the production of by-products, the losses due to breakage and the quality of the scheduled maintenance of the industry.

He also discussed technical parameters to increase yields and guarantee the basic food basket and the commercialization of this exportable product, one of the country’s priorities.

He emphasized that there is an urgent need to increase food processing, as a guarantee capable of improving the quality of life of the population and preparing the youth to maintain the historical continuity of the revolutionary work.

Ramón Aguilera Ávila, general director of the Cristino Naranjo sugar agro-industrial enterprise, informed that the company has produced more than 6,000 tons of sugar and among the main problems affecting the industry are the delays in the sowing of the crop.

The President of the Cuban Parliament highlighted the negative effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, in addition to the drop in the price of minerals in the international market.

During the day, he also visited the food production plant, where he was interested in the use of local components to increase the offers to the population, for example, non-conventional flours in the manufacture of croquettes.

At the site’s cultural complex, Lazo Hernández shared with children from the Afrocuba community project and discussed vocational training and values among children, as well as the orientation of adolescents and young people towards agriculture studies.

The tour included the loading center of 20 electric tricycles, recently inaugurated in the provincial capital city, which currently favors the transportation of passengers on one of the routes with the highest demand, from the Las Baleares Terminal to the José Martí Vocational School, with a modest fare of 10 pesos.

Lazo Hernandez was accompanied on the working visit by the governor of Holguin, Manuel Francisco Hernandez Aguilera, together with other political and governmental authorities of the province.
