The Award to the Best Edition 2024 was granted to Las aguas y el espejo. Especulaciones sobre poesía by Virgilio López Lemus, published by Ediciones Aldabón, from Matanzas, as part of the activities of the 32nd International Book Fair in Holguín.
Due to the excellent inside design work, the good use of margins, the adequate typography used, the right cover design, as well as the careful edition of a well-written text, the jury unanimously decided to award the prize to the publishing house of the Hermanos Saíz Association of the province of Matanzas, explained Manuel Arias Silveira, director of the Cuadernos Papiro imprint, from Holguin.
The jury, made up of writers, editors and designers Manuel Avila, Rebeca Pantoja, Adalberto Santos, Lourdes Gonzalez and Roberto Raez, took into account, when deciding, aspects such as stylistic coherence, interior and cover design, the location of the title in the collection, the illustrations chosen, the words on the back cover, as well as the correspondence between the final artwork and the content of the work.
Published in 2019, the volume is an essayistic compendium that brings together three books by the author: Narciso, las aguas y el espejo; Agua Tributaria and Gravitación de la poesía and which reviews various literary, artistic and psychological interpretations made throughout the story.
The award was presented to Daniel Cruz, editor of the volume and director of Ediciones Aldabón, by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province, together with Sarahí Ferrer Morales, director of the Provincial Book and Literature Center in Holguín.
Sponsored by the Provincial Book and Literature Center in Holguin, the award, created in 1999, has the purpose of stimulating the work of the professionals of the Territorial Publishing System.
