The majority of cigar manufacturing in the province of Holguin is in the hands of women. Their active incorporation in this sector is present in all its processes -agriculture, pre-industry and industry- and their contribution is fundamental for the capture of foreign currency.
It is an essential work force that represents more than 60% of those hired in the territory and assures every year the productions destined for export and the national market that place this eastern Cuban region among the most outstanding and with the best results of the tobacco activity in the country.

Women are skillful in the work of picking, processing and rolling, but they are also skilled and expert rollers and take care in detail of the banding and packaging of the renowned brands of Habano cigars that are handmade in Holguín and have a worldwide reputation, such as Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagás, Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey or H.Upmann.
Thanks to their performance, the five factories dedicated to the manufacture of hand-rolled cigars for export produce approximately 75,000 physical units a day.
Their efforts have a positive impact on the recovery of the Cuban economy, but also on family support. As workers, they are guaranteed equal pay, professional development and growth, and they work in an environment where their rights are respected, where gender equality prevails, and where their entrepreneurial capacity, selflessness and contribution to the development of society are recognized.
