A young rector for the University of Holguín

Young PhD Aniuska Ortiz Pérez is, as of today, the new rector of the University of Holguin (UHo), the largest house of higher studies in the province that is getting ready for the institutional evaluation process, in October, in which it aspires to the category of Excellence.

Walter Baluja García, Minister of Higher Education, Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, First Secretary of the Party in the province, Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, Governor of Holguín, guests, relatives and a representation of the university community attended the solemn act of reception of the position.

The promotion of PhD. Ortiz Pérez to the position of rector comes “after a period of collective leadership”, as she pointed out, in which professors, workers and students contributed to the excellent results of the UHo as a continuation of the work developed by PhD. Isabel Torres Torres, who died in July last year.

Ortiz Pérez, Cuba’s youngest rector, also said that “the UHo, with solid scientific, social and cultural impacts over 55 years, faces the challenges of responding to government projections in its management based on science and innovation, strengthening strategic alliances with organizations in the territory and the country and consolidating the computerization of its processes and internationalization.

In her professional career, she has held the positions of Director of Quality and Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and has received the Provincial Award of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba, the Rector’s Award and the recognition as Distinguished Personality of the province.

At the end of the ceremony, the minister encouraged the university community to accompany the new rector on the path of sacrifice and success of this Alma Mater of Holguin, while announcing the appointment as first vice rector of to PhD Manuel Alberto Leyva Estupiñán, after serving as dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and vice rector of Research and Graduate Studies of the UHo.
