Naïf artist Rolando Salvador Pavón recently received one of the awards at the Naïf International Art event, Ruperto Jay Matamoros, in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
Pavón expressed, exclusively to Radio Angulo digital, that “receiving the award with the work “Guateque campesino” is an honor and a great stimulus to my professional career. It is a Salon that bears the name of Ruperto Jay, the first artist Naïf National Prize of Fine Arts in Cuba.
It is an honor to achieve this important recognition and at the same time it stimulates me to continue creating, because it is a recognition to the artists of popular expression”, expressed the also president of the plastic arts section of the branch of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in Holguin.

Pavon has national and international awards in his career. With participation in salons and exhibitions in Holguin galleries and of the country in collective and personal samples distinguish him in the panorama of the plastic arts in Holguin and in Cuba.

The Ruperto Jay Award also has a cash value of five thousand CUP and allows the recognized works to become part of the permanent patrimony of the Art Gallery.

Luis Tellez, a Naïf artist residing in the municipality of Moa, also won the award along with artist Yanet Parra, from Santiago de Cuba.
The Ruperto Jay International Salon is an incentive to the Naïf artists of Cuba and other nations. At the same time, it is a perpetual posthumous tribute, since its creation, to the great Cuban artist, distinguished in 2000 with the highest award for life and work in the Fine Arts in the country.
