Holguin with favorable debut in national baseball tourney U-18   

The Cachorritos of Holguin, current runners-up, started off well in the National the National Baseball Championship U-18, by defeating the team from Guantanamo in two out of the three games played at the sport school EIDE Pedro Diaz Coello, in the nicknamed Cuban City of the Parks.

In a single game played on Saturday, the victory of the locals was 5×3, with seven hits and two errors for the winners and four hits and one error for the  four hits and one error for the defeated team.

The win went to Ramiro Francis García, who was supported by the offensive from Jesus Guerrero who hit a double and triple in three innings and Jeison Diaz (2-4) with three RBIs. The setback went to to Daymar Lescaille.

This Sunday there was a division of honors with a 5×4 victory for Guantanamo, where Yankiel Estupiñán was the winner, Raudelin Cantallops saved and Eliesner Tamayo was the loser.

At the end of the game, the victory of Holguín, 3×2, had the successful pitching of Alaín Torres with the offensive complement of Yadier Bonne, 3-2 with a run batted in, Leonardo Romero, 2-2, and Yordan Manduley Jr. with a sacrifice fly to push the decisive run.

If the debut of the Holguin youths was favorable, it was uncertain for the U-15 Cadets, as they lost three times as visitors in Guantanamo, with scores of 5×4, 4-0 and 7×1.

As for the other result of this qualifying group D, in both categories favored Santiago de Cuba over Granma with a sweep (3-0) for the Cadets and a victory (2-1) for the Juveniles.

On Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, February 4, Holguin’s Juveniles will host their counterparts from Santiago de Cuba at the EIDE Pedro Diaz Coello and the Cadets will play as visitors in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

The qualifying stage of the national baseball championships in these categories, cadets and juniors, is developed with four groups of four teams each, which play a total of 36 games.
