Exhibition “Farolmania” dedicated to Lalita Curbelo Barberán

The paintbrush of Iosvani García Pérez, (El Pintorcillo), evokes life and work of poetess Lalita Curbelo Barberán, in the exhibition “Farolmania” of 22 paintings open to the public at Holguin Gallery, located on Maceo Street, Areas and Agramonte, in the nicknamed Cuban City of Parks.

I no longer think as an artist but as I enter Lalita’s universe. The series “Farolmania with colors, shapes and lanterns I dedicate it all to her. Lalita’s humanism, everything she wrote, captivated me,” said Garcia.

Iosvani is a graduate of the Raúl Gómez García School of Art that has won several awards, including first place in painting in the Ibero-American Salón Iberoamericano of Fine Artes. Ande so far he has exhibited in several Cuban provinces.

For the public it is “a beautiful exhibition. I have read Lalita and shared with her at her home and in cultural encounters,” García commented.

Poet Gilberto Gonzalez Seik, in his words for the catalog, said: “These humble lanterns, from accompanying us so much in life, are becoming like those old and abandoned farmers’ boots that Van Gogh painted. The painter of the lanterns does not want us to see simple objects to see simple objects but rather humanities”.

“Farolmania” will be at the disposal of Holguin people and visitors throughout the current December.

“Farolmania”, that will be available to Holguin people and visitors throughout the month of December, is part of the event “Catedrales de Hormigas” (Cathedrals of Ants)”, title of one of the most notorious works in homage to the poetess.

Eulalia Curbelo Barberán, (Lalita) is considered one of the most important voices of the Holguin literature and was a woman of extraordinary humanism with children and dispossessed people. She created the”Casona del Amor diario” (House of Daily Love) in 1959 for children without family support.

Until her death on December 28, 2002, Lalita was faithful to the ideals of peace, love and prosperity in Cuban society.
