Holguin to host the National Youth Theater Festival

The 13th National Youth Theater Festival will bring back to the nicknamed Cuban City of the Parks, starting this Thursday, the best of country’s theater scene, in a new effort to turn Holguin into the capital of young theater.

Dedicated to theater direction and production, the event has summoned companies and projects such as Teatro La Proa (Havana), Oficio de Isla (Havana), Teatro Alas (Pinar del Río), El juglar del cisne (Pinar del Río), I Want Teatro (Matanzas), Teatro Alas de Cuba (Granma) and the Oral Narration Company “Palabras al Viento” (Holguín).

Actor Yaser Velazquez, a member of the organizing committee, explained at a press conference that the current edition takes place outside its usual date, however, it is one of the few theater festivals scheduled this year in the country, which responds to the institutional support of the Provincial Directorate of Culture, the Provincial Council of Performing Arts and the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS).

Until September 23, the Alberto Dávalos and Raúl Camayd halls of the Eddy Suñol Cultural Complex, the Café Tres Lucía and the Casa del Joven Creador of the AHS, will be the venues of the meeting, where the public will be able to enjoy diverse poetics within the theater, among them, the always awaited children’s performances, Velázquez explained.

In addition to the performances, there will be a theoretical space with the participation of the directors and producers of the invited companies, who will address the challenges of these specialties in the contemporary Cuban context, in addition to the usual presentation of the theater catalog of Ediciones La Luz, with its texts “Outsiders”, by Alessandra Santiesteban and “Ludoteca”, by Leonardo Velazquez.

The official opening of the National Youth Theater Festival, on September 21, in the Main Hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater, will be in charge of the Etcétera Humor Group with its show “DesTintos y DifeRientes”, under the artistic and general direction of Eider Luis Pérez Martínez.
